Single parenting advice

Indeed it is a tough task to raise the kids as a single parent yet it is not an impossible task to perform. The first year of it is really testing as this will be the time when youíll have to take those decisions which you never contemplated of and youíll be the one on whose strength the whole world of your child will tilt. Here are some pieces of advice which might work well for you if you want to parent your kid in the best way possible.

  1. Developing a strong network for support is one of the best things you can do as a single parent. Informal group of friends, family members, relatives as well as formal groups can help you in hours of need. These groups should be such which should consist of trustworthy people who can stand by your side at the time of need. Chose only those people who are attached to you and your kid on an emotional level.
  2. If you actually want to put in effort for developing a strong relationship with your child then take out time when both of can spend quality time with each other. This should be the time when both of you can pour out what ever is deep within. Remember that when living with a single parent, a kid misses the other parent and if you fail to dedicate some good amount of time, he/she might start missing the other parent even more. This may lead to conflict between you and your kid which will of late become a cause of tarnishing your relationship.
  3. If you feel that it is bit difficult for you to dedicate proper amount of time for your kid then think of creative ideas which could make it possible. Get up early, fix the days when you can just order a meal, etc and this should be just because you need to have good communication with your kid. Dedicating time especially to your kid is one of the most important things you must do to develop a fine rapport which will create understanding and love for each other.
  4. Your emotional presence with the kid is indeed a factor which counts a lot. Just being physically present there does not work wonders. Plan outings, walks, activities or just games when both of you can have fun together. All the while you are with your kid just forget what you actually are and behave as he/she wants you to behave. Love, pamper, cuddle and have fun with your kid so that he/she looks forward to spending precious moments with you in future as well.

In short, there are numerous things you can do to maintain a healthy and fun relation with your kid but it can happen only if you are treating the situation in a psychological manner. Read books, listen to tapes and ask counselors how to go about it and prove the world that you are the best single parent.
